Discover the plant
Dahlia pompon 'High Fidelity' (Dahlia) is an elegant tuberous perennial distinguished by its perfectly spherical, intense raspberry-red flowers, subtly lightened towards the tips of the petals. Short, curved, and tightly imbricated, these petals form a dense and regular texture typical of pompon dahlias. From July to October, the blooms generously renew themselves above dark green foliage on plants reaching approximately 90 cm (35 in) in height. This variety brings structure, radiance, and refinement to summer arrangements. Not hardy in Quebec, it must be overwintered in a frost-free environment.
Plant the tuber in spring, when all risk of frost has passed, about 10 cm (4 in) deep in rich, loose soil, enriched with compost, and perfectly drained. Choose a well-ventilated location receiving at least six hours of direct sunlight per day, then space the plants 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16 in) apart. Water lightly until sprouts appear, then regularly to keep the soil moist without waterlogging it. Pinch back young stems to encourage branching and apply a potassium-rich fertilizer once buds begin to form. Dig up the tuber after a light frost and store it in a cool, dry, and frost-free place.
Dahlia 'High Fidelity' is ideal for colorful borders, sunny beds, large containers, and cut flower gardens. Combine it with salvias, white cosmos, echinaceas, Verbena bonariensis, and ornamental grasses to create vibrant and well-balanced scenes. Its long stems produce excellent cut flowers, highly prized for their impeccable shape, vibrant color, and remarkable vase life. The flowers also attract various pollinators throughout the growing season. Regular harvesting and removal of spent blooms help maintain abundant flowering until the first frosts.
