Jump for Joy Floral Harmony (Tulipa spp. and Narcissus spp.). Jump for Joy combines fourteen red tulip and orange-yellow narcissus bulbs in an energetic mid-spring display. The tulips provide upright, clean-lined blossoms, while the narcissus add bright coronas and a spring fragrance. Stems reach approximately 40 cm (16 in) above green foliage, which is lanceolate in Tulipa and strap-like in Narcissus. The two genera belong to the Liliaceae and Amaryllidaceae families, respectively. Planted in groups, the bulbs create a warm contrast in beds, borders, and containers.
Plant Jump for Joy from September to November when the soil has cooled but is still workable. Choose full sun or light partial shade and fertile, loose, well-drained soil. Place the bulbs with the pointy end up, 12 to 15 cm (5 to 6 in) deep, and space them about 10 cm (4 in) apart, ensuring tulips and narcissus are not layered in the same hole. Water after planting to settle the soil, then allow seasonal precipitation to maintain moderate moisture. For containers, use a deep, frost-proof pot with drainage holes. Avoid standing water and high-nitrogen fertilizers.
After flowering, remove spent blooms before seed formation, but allow all leaves to yellow naturally. This maturation recharges the bulbs and supports their return; narcissus are generally more perennial than many horticultural tulips. Install Jump for Joy in a dynamic border, a family bed, or a large pot visible from the house. Pair it with blue grape hyacinths, white flowers, and grey-green foliage. For a bouquet, condition freshly cut narcissus separately before combining them with tulips. Deer resistance varies between the two genera. All parts, especially the bulbs, are toxic if ingested.
