Gourmet 'Violet Queen' Potato (Solanum tuberosum). A nutritious and delicious purple potato! The 'Violet Queen' potato is a gourmet variety with intense purple skin and flesh, rich in antioxidants and flavour. It is distinguished by its melting texture and slightly sweet taste, perfect for a multitude of culinary preparations: colourful purees, original fries, homemade chips or oven-roasted. Easy to grow, it offers good productivity and excellent storage, while bringing a unique and visually spectacular touch to your dishes! Width/Spread: 14 cm (6 in) per plant. Quantity: 500 g (approx. 5 to 8 tubers).
April to May, when the soil reaches 8-10°C and there is no longer any risk of frost. Open field method. Then, prepare the soil by loosening it and incorporating compost or well-decomposed manure. Then, plant the tubers 9 cm (4 in) deep, with the sprouts facing upwards. Then, space each plant 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16 in) apart, in rows spaced 70 cm (28 in). Then, cover with soil and water lightly. When the plants reach 20-25 cm (8 to 10 in) in height, mound the soil around the stems to protect the tubers from light and prevent them from turning green.
Repeat the operation once or twice during the season. Pot or grow bag cultivation. Then, choose a large container (minimum 40 cm (16 in) deep). Then, plant the tubers in 15 cm (6 in) of potting soil, then cover. Then, add potting soil gradually as the plants grow. Then, water regularly without soaking the soil. Tip: Well-drained soil and crop rotation prevent diseases such as blight and scab. Harvest: 90 to 110 days after planting, when the foliage begins to yellow and dry. Let the potatoes dry for a few hours on the ground before storing them. A spectacular colour for original and healthy dishes.
