Turmeric 'Rose'

Rose Siam Tulip (Curcuma alismatifolia ‘Rose’) is a spectacular tropical perennial prized for its vibrant pink bracts that rise gracefully above broad, lance-shaped, bright green foliage. The true flowers are nestled discreetly between the colourful bracts, enhancing the plant's exotic appearance. Blooming from June through September, its long-lasting floral display adds colour, height, and elegance to summer landscapes. Reaching approximately 60 to 75 cm (24 to 30 in) tall, it creates a striking focal point in containers and garden beds. Not hardy in Canada, it should be grown as a seasonal plant and overwintered indoors, protected from frost.

Plant the rhizome in spring after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has thoroughly warmed, approximately 5 cm (2 in) deep. Choose a warm location in partial sun or light shade with bright light but protection from intense afternoon sun. Grow it in rich, humus-rich, light, consistently moist, and well-drained soil. Space plants about 30 cm (12 in) apart and maintain even moisture without allowing the soil to become waterlogged. Feed every two weeks during active growth, then gradually reduce watering as the foliage enters dormancy. Lift the rhizomes before the first autumn frost and store them in a cool, dry, frost-free location until spring.

Rose Siam Tulip is ideal for patios, terraces, tropical garden beds, and containers at least 30 to 35 cm (12 to 14 in) in diameter. Pair it with cannas, colocasias, caladiums, and begonias to create lush, tropical combinations with striking textures. Its long-lasting blooms attract bees and other pollinators while also making excellent cut flowers for exotic floral arrangements. This variety is grown strictly for ornamental purposes and is not intended for culinary use. When grown in containers, it can easily be moved indoors in autumn and stored dry throughout the winter.
