Gourmet 'Banana' Potato (Solanum tuberosum). An elongated, flavorful, and versatile fingerling potato! The 'Banana' potato is a gourmet fingerling variety, prized for its elongated shape resembling a small banana, its thin golden-yellow skin, and its firm, buttery flesh. Its mild taste and tender texture make it an excellent option for salads, roasted, steamed, or sautéed potatoes. Easy to grow, high-yielding, and excellent for storage, it is ideal for home gardeners and chefs looking for a flavorful and original potato. Quantity: 500 g (approximately 6 to 10 tubers).
March to April, as soon as the soil reaches 8-10°C and there is no longer a risk of frost. Method: in-ground. First, prepare the soil by loosening it and incorporating compost or well-decomposed manure. Then, plant the tubers 10 cm (4 in) deep, with the sprouts facing upwards. Then, space each plant 30 cm (12 in) apart, in rows spaced 70 cm (28 in) apart. Then, cover with soil and water lightly. When the plants reach 20-25 cm (8 to 10 in) in height, hill the soil around the stems to protect the tubers from light and prevent them from turning green. Repeat this operation once or twice during the season.
Pot or grow bag cultivation. First, choose a large container (minimum 40 cm (16 in) deep). Then, plant the tubers in 15 cm (6 in) of potting soil, then cover. Then, add potting soil gradually as they grow. Then, water regularly without waterlogging the soil. Tip: Well-drained soil and crop rotation prevent diseases such as blight and scab. Harvest: 90 to 110 days after planting, when the foliage begins to yellow and dry. Let the potatoes dry for a few hours on the ground before storing them. Storage: Store them in a cool, dark, and well-ventilated place to extend their shelf life.
