Scotts® Grub B Gon® MAX Larva Killer

Scotts® Grub B Gon® MAX is a biological insecticide specifically formulated to target beetle larvae responsible for invisible but deep-seated damage to lawns. These white grubs, often from June beetles or Japanese beetles, feed on grass roots, causing widespread weakening, discolored patches, diffuse yellowing, and loss of density. They also attract skunks and raccoons, which dig in the surface to feed, exacerbating the visible damage.

This product works thanks to a natural strain of Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. galleriae (SDS-502), a soil bacterium that exclusively targets larvae when they consume treated roots. Non-toxic to humans, pets, and pollinating insects, it offers a method of pest control that respects the garden ecosystem. By quickly reaching the root zone after watering or rain, it interrupts larval development before it can cause irreversible damage.

Recommended use:
Apply to a dry lawn using a calibrated spreader (preferably Scotts®). Once application is complete, water thoroughly to allow the product to penetrate the root zone. Use preferably in spring (April to June) or late summer (August to September), when the grubs are young and more vulnerable. Do not mow immediately after application to allow the product to remain on the surface before watering.

Plants concerned

Formulated for ornamental or residential lawns, regardless of the grass type: bluegrass, fescue, ryegrass, or various mixtures. Also suitable for newly seeded lawns or those established for several years. Its targeted action helps protect surrounding plants.

Features and benefits

Effective biocontrol
Uses Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. galleriae (strain SDS-502), a naturally occurring soil bacterium known for its selective effect on beetle larvae.
Preventive and curative action
Prevents young larvae from establishing themselves and interrupts the feeding of larvae already present in the active phase.
Reduction of secondary damage
Fewer larvae mean fewer burrowing pests (raccoons, skunks) and therefore less mechanical damage on the surface.
Respect for beneficial wildlife
It does not harm bees, earthworms, or beneficial insects. It can be used in environments frequented by children or pets.
Large cover
A 1.40 kg (3.08 lb) bag effectively treats up to 125 m² (1,345 sq ft) for a standard residential area.
Ease of implementation
It can be applied with a standard spreader and requires no special protection or complex preparation. Watering is sufficient to activate its effect.
Restoring the lawn
By protecting the roots, it allows the lawn to regain density, vigor and uniform color without resorting to aggressive treatments.
Compatible with environmentally friendly management
Suitable for lawns managed without chemical pesticides, as part of sustainable and responsible garden maintenance.
