A heritage variety introduced in the late 1880s , “Small Sugar” has long been the gold standard for pumpkin pies. It produces attractive round fruits, 20 to 25 cm in diameter, with bright orange skin and firm , sweet , fine-grained flesh, ideal for purées, desserts, soups, and pastries. In addition to its exceptional flavor, this pumpkin stores very well , allowing for extended use after harvest.

Planting and maintenance:
Plant in full sun in rich, loose, well-drained soil. Sow when the soil is warm or start indoors 2–3 weeks before planting out. Give the vigorous vines plenty of room. Water deeply but not excessively to encourage good fruiting. Harvest when the skin is hard and uniformly orange. Allow to dry in the sun for a few days before storing to improve preservation.
