Datura 'Jimson Weed' is a robust, branching, and strongly scented plant bearing large, white, trumpet-shaped flowers that open in the evening and wither by early morning . Spectacular but dangerous, it contains potent alkaloids— atropine, hyoscyamine, and scopolamine —once used in some Native American rituals of the Southwest, but known for their severe toxic effects , which can cause serious hallucinations, neurological disorders, and death .
All parts of the plant, including the seeds, are toxic. It must be cultivated with extreme caution, away from children, animals, and crowded places.

Farming method

Soak the seeds for a maximum of 24 hours in lukewarm water to promote germination.
Sow in an alkaline, light and very well-drained potting mix , barely covering the seeds (depth 1/10″ ).
Water lightly and then let the substrate dry out between waterings : germination often occurs when the soil becomes dry or during a heatwave in full sun .
Install in full sun (level 3) with moderate to high watering (level 3).
Space them widely: 90 cm between plants, 90 to 150 cm between rows.
Germination in 15 to 20 days at 21–25 °C (optimum 22 °C).


Harvesting and preservation

No part of this plant should be consumed.
Night-time flowering can be appreciated visually, but it is recommended to wear gloves for any handling.
