Okra 'OM-152' is a very early hybrid variety, prized for its abundant production of uniform, glossy, dark green pods measuring 4 to 5 inches . The plants are compact , with small leaves, reaching 90 to 120 cm in height, and begin to fruit early—as soon as they reach 30 cm . They continue to produce continuously until frost if harvested regularly. Versatile in the kitchen, it is suitable for frying, boiling, canning, and pickling , and is also perfectly suited to container gardens thanks to its compact structure and drought tolerance.

Farming method

Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for a maximum of 12 hours to optimize germination. Start the seedlings indoors 6 weeks before planting out , handling them gently when transplanting as the roots are fragile .
Sow or transplant outdoors after all risk of frost has passed, in warm soil. Bury the seeds at a depth of 1.25 cm .
Plant in full sun (level 3) and water regularly, although okra tolerates drought. Space plants 45 to 60 cm apart, with 90 cm between rows.
Germination in 2 to 12 days between 18 and 32 °C (optimum 21 °C).


Harvesting and preservation

Harvest every 2 to 3 days to encourage continuous production. The pods should be harvested young, when they are tender and crisp .
Store them for 7 to 10 days in a bag or ventilated container between 7 and 10 °C .
