The 'Cherokee Green' tomato is a selection derived from the renowned 'Cherokee Purple', adapted to produce one of the finest green tomatoes a gardener can grow. Indeterminate, robust, and productive, it yields medium-sized green fruits, weighing approximately 225g , which develop a light yellow-orange hue on the side opposite the stem when ripe. When sliced, its juicy, dense flesh reveals the very essence of heirloom green tomatoes: an intense, tangy, complex flavor with an aromatic depth that rivals the best dark-colored varieties.

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before planting out . Place the seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in a light potting mix and maintain a temperature of 23–29 °C for germination in 5 to 10 days . Reduce watering and nitrogen during acclimatization to strengthen the seedlings.

Transplant after all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60 to 90 cm (24–36") apart and leave 120 to 180 cm (4–6') between rows. Grow in full sun (level 3) , water regularly (level 3), and provide sturdy support .

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the tomato is still green but has a slight yellow-orange bloom , and yields slightly to pressure. To prepare for harvesting earlier, pick the fruits showing their first signs of color , then let them ripen off the vine at 22°C or higher . Store between 12–21°C , at 95% relative humidity , to maintain their firm texture.
