The giant pumpkin that sets the standard for breaking world records
Giant “Atlantic Giant” pumpkin ( Cucurbita maxima ), offered by OSC Seeds
A legendary variety developed by Howard Dill in Nova Scotia, “Atlantic Giant” is the ultimate competition pumpkin . It holds numerous world records , with fruits frequently reaching 200 to 300 kg , and sometimes over 450 kg under expert care. The fruits are massive , with pale orange skin, slightly flattened , and grow on extremely vigorous vines. A must-have for anyone who dreams of growing a giant pumpkin!
Propagation: Indoor sowing or direct sowing in late spring
Height/Habit: Very vigorous, creeping vines
Packet size: Approximately 10–12 seeds (I can adjust the quantity to a precise amount if you wish)
Harvest time: 120–140 days
Frost tolerance: Killed by frost
Companion plants: Corn, beans, nasturtiums (low competition)
Incompatible plants: Other closely related cucurbits (risk of cross-pollination)
Planting and maintenance:
Plant in full sun in very rich, deep soil heavily amended with compost. Space them widely: the vines can spread several meters. Water deeply and regularly to prevent cracking. To obtain giant fruit , select 1 or 2 fruits per plant, apply a fertilizer rich in potassium, and protect the young fruit from direct sunlight and excessive moisture. Harvest when the skin is hard and evenly colored.
