'Honey Baby' Winter Squash
description
Small, sweet butternut squash, compact and perfect for small spaces
Winter squash “Honey Baby” ( Cucurbita moschata ), offered by OSC Seeds
AAS winner, “Honey Baby” is a super compact squash with vines reaching only 1 m , ideal for pots , small gardens, and limited spaces. Its flavor is deliciously sweet and nutty , and its semi-bushy habit allows for impressive production: each plant yields 8 to 9 small, hourglass- shaped fruits. The individual squashes measure 15 to 17 cm and have a skin ranging from warm orange to beige . This vigorous hybrid variety is resistant to powdery mildew .
Propagation: Indoor sowing or direct sowing in late spring
Height/Habit: Semi-bushy, short vines
Packet size: Approximately 15 to 20 seeds
Harvest time: 85–95 days
Frost tolerance: Killed by frost
Companion plants: Beans, corn, nasturtiums
Incompatible plants: Other closely related cucurbits (competition)
Planting and maintenance:
Plant in full sun in rich, well-drained soil. Sow directly when the soil is warm, or start the seeds indoors 2 to 3 weeks before planting out. Space the vines moderately: they will remain compact but need air circulation. Water deeply, but not soggy. Harvest when the skin is firm and has developed a well-developed beige-orange color. Allow to dry for a few days before storing to improve preservation and flavor.
