Vitis 'Marquette'

Latin name
Vitis 'Marquette'
Common name
'Marquette' vine
Type
Fruit-bearing climbing plant
Family
Vitaceae

Vitis ‘Marquette’, commonly known as ‘Marquette’ grape, is a high-quality hybrid grape variety developed for viticulture in cold climates. Its vigorous climbing habit, with twining tendrils, is easily trained on trellises or a training system. It produces compact clusters of blue-black grapes with thick skins, rich in sugars and tannins, offering excellent structure for the production of complex red wines with notes of black cherry, spice, and sometimes cocoa. Maturity generally occurs in early autumn. Its deciduous bright green foliage forms a dense canopy during the season and can color in the fall. Very cold-hardy and relatively disease-tolerant, Vitis ‘Marquette’ attracts pollinating insects and is a preferred choice for northern vineyards.
