Botanical profile

Lonicera tatarica

Lonicera tatarica, known as Tartarian honeysuckle, is a vigorous deciduous shrub valued for its abundant flowering and excellent hardiness. This species forms a dense, rounded bush that integrates well into informal hedges, screens, and shrub borders. In spring, its branches are covered with a multitude of pale pink to bright pink tubular flowers that release a light fragrance and attract many pollinators. After flowering, small, shiny red berries appear, which are highly decorative, persist through part of the summer, and are enjoyed by birds. Its medium green, slightly matte foliage creates a beautiful mass of greenery throughout the season. Very hardy and easy to cultivate, this honeysuckle tolerates a wide variety of soils and climatic conditions, making it a robust shrub for northern gardens.
