Vitis ‘Frontenac Noir’, commonly known as the ‘Frontenac Noir’ grape, is an extremely hardy grape variety selected for its ability to produce quality grapes in cold climates. Its vigorous climbing habit, with strong tendrils and robust canes, effectively covers trellises and pergolas in full sun. It forms medium to compact clusters of bluish-black grapes with thick skins, containing juicy flesh with a distinct acidity, developing intense aromas of black cherry, plum, and wild berries. Widely used for winemaking, it produces deeply colored, structured wines with present tannins and good aging potential. Its deep green deciduous foliage creates a dense screen during the summer and turns yellow in the fall. Vitis ‘Frontenac Noir’ is distinguished by its high productivity, consistency, and tolerance to harsh cold.
