Vaccinium angustifolium 'Chippawa'
Vaccinium angustifolium 'Chippawa' is a particularly hardy native dwarf blueberry, selected for its abundant production and cold tolerance. This low-growing, spreading deciduous shrub forms a dense groundcover, significantly wider than it is tall, ideal for slopes, rock gardens, and naturalistic plantings. In spring, small, pinkish-white bell-shaped flowers attract pollinators and precede a summer harvest of small, intensely sweet and aromatic blueberries. The fruits, typical of wild blueberries, are perfect for processing and fresh consumption. Its green foliage turns superb bright red in autumn, adding significant ornamental interest. Vaccinium angustifolium 'Chippawa' requires acidic, well-drained soil rich in organic matter, as well as a sunny exposure to ensure optimal production in Nordic climates.
